Don't worry, this is completely natural. However, a visit to the dentist should not be a traumatic experience.

But the longer you put off a visit to the dentist, the more likely it is that you will have serious oral health problems and we want to prevent that.

Afraid of the dentist

If you have had a bad experience in the past, or it has been some time since your last appointment with a dentist, a visit to my practice can positively change the way you perceive dental appointments.

We make nervous and anxious patients feel comfortable by creating a warm and welcoming environment where our patients don't feel rushed or pressured.

This means that we give you time to discuss the planned treatment in peace and without scary technical terms. It also means that we give you the opportunity to influence your treatment: if you wish, we can divide the treatment into several smaller sessions that are easier for you to manage. We are happy to adjust to your pace and take a break if you need it.

If you want to distract yourself, for example with relaxing music or your favourite film, just let us know. It is important that you feel comfortable and relaxed in order to enjoy going to your dentist.

Reduce anxiety with laughing gas

To make your treatment as pleasant as possible we offer the popular sedation method laughing gas (also known as nitrous oxide). This is a very safe and gentle method of sedation.

We will tailor the mixture of oxygen and nitrous oxide to ensure you receive the optimal dosage to feel comfortable and relaxed. The calming effects of laughing gas kick in quickly, reducing anxiety, discomfort and minimising the urge to gag.

Another benefit of laughing gas is that you are fully conscious and in control of yourself and your body throughout the treatment. The sedation wears off immediately once the treatment is withdrawn, with all effects gone after 15 minutes. This means there are no restrictive after-effects and you are fit to drive.

The system we use utilises comfortable nasal masks that ensure a constant supply of gas is maintained throughout the treatment. You can even choose between different scents!

Since laughing gas is very safe and has no after-effects, it is also suitable for use in children and can help make a visit to the dentist a relaxed, fearless and positive experience.

We are proud that our gentle approach has helped many nervous patients finally get the treatment they need.
